How to Find Your UTV Bolt Pattern
Bolt pattern is the number of lugs and the diameter of the circle they sit on. A 4x156 wheel has four studs on a 156 mm circle. This is the one spec with no tolerance. The pattern matches or the wheel does not go on, and adapters to force the issue put shear load on hardware that was never designed for it.

Three notes on that table.
The 4x136 and 4x137 patterns are the same fitment. Can-Am and Honda publish the 136 figure on some machines while every wheel manufacturer builds and lists the wheel as 4x137. The one millimeter is measurement convention, not a clearance problem, and the wheels bolt on.
The bore figures are the hub pilot on the machine, not the bore of the wheel. Wheel manufacturers usually machine a larger bore and publish that number instead, which is where most of the confusion starts. A hub-centric fitment means the wheel seats on that pilot and the studs only clamp. A lug-centric fitment has no pilot doing the work; the taper of the lug nuts centers the wheel as you torque them.
Model year matters more than the range suggests. Polaris moved the XPEDITION and Ranger XD 1500 to the 5-lug pattern in 2024, and the Maverick R arrived on 6-lug in 2024. If your machine sits near one of those transition years, send us the VIN before you order.
Two platforms broke from the old 4-lug standard, and they trip people up.
The Can-Am Maverick R runs a 6-lug 6x139.7 pattern on a 78.1 mm hub-centric bore. Maverick X3 wheels will not fit it. Metal FX built its 6R line specifically for that hub, and we stock it, including the Delta 6R Beadlock in 15x7 and 15x10. The Polaris RZR Pro R and Ranger XD 1500 run a 5-lug 5x114.3 pattern on a 66.1 mm bore. Metal FX calls that fitment its R series, including the Slayer R Beadlock in 15x8 and 15x10. Machine-specific options live in our RZR Pro R parts collection.

UTV Wheel Sizes: 14 Inch, 15 Inch, and Larger
Wheel diameter has to match tire diameter exactly. A 33x10R15 tire mounts on a 15 inch wheel and nothing else, so pick the wheel and the tire together.
- 12 and 14 inch. Mid-size and utility machines. More sidewall to absorb rocks and roots, and the widest, cheapest tire selection. 14x7 is still the most common utility fitment.
- 15 inch. The sport standard, and where most 30 to 35 inch tires live. 15x7 up front with 15x10 in back is the pairing we mount most often.
- 16 to 18 inch. Less sidewall, more room for big brake packages, a firmer ride on hardpack.
- 20 to 24 inch. Street and show builds. Fuel UTV covers this range further than anyone else we carry, with 20x7, 22x7, and 24x7 across its Reaction, Kompressor, Triton, and Maverick lines.
The trade-off is straightforward. Every inch of wheel diameter you add is an inch of sidewall you give up at the same overall tire height. Less sidewall means a harsher ride and a rim that takes the hit instead of the rubber. If you ride Ozark rock, that matters more than it does in sand.

UTV Wheel Width, and Front Versus Rear Fitment
Width is the second number. A 15x7 wheel is 15 inches across and 7 inches wide. Wider wheels flatten the tread arc of a wide tire, which puts more rubber on the ground and keeps engine torque from rolling the bead sideways in a hard corner.

Watch the front-versus-rear labeling on the product page. Some wheels are listed as rear-specific because their offset would foul steering or suspension components up front. The High Lifter HL3 in 12x7 and 4x110, at 2+5 backspacing and -47 mm, is listed as a rear wheel for exactly that reason.
Running wider rears with narrower fronts will not hurt your 4WD gear train, as long as the overall rolling diameter of the front and rear tires matches and the pressures are set so the circumferences stay equal.
UTV Wheel Offset and Backspacing: 4+3, 5+2, and 6+1 Explained
Offset gets published two ways, and both describe the same thing: where the mounting face sits relative to the wheel.
Backspacing notation uses two numbers that add up to the wheel width, so 4+3 is a 7 inch wheel and 5+5 is a 10 inch wheel. The first number is the inboard side. Raise it and the wheel tucks in.
Millimeter offset measures from the wheel centerline to the mounting face. Positive offset tucks the wheel in toward the machine. Negative offset pushes it out.
When a spec sheet lists both, go by the millimeter figure. The X+Y notation is a shorthand and does not always convert cleanly to the decimal backspacing printed on the same sheet.

The math is simple to hold in your head. Drop the first number by an inch and the wheel moves out about an inch on each side, which is two inches of total track width.
Now the honest part. A wider stance lowers your rollover threshold and steadies the machine at speed, which is why dune and open-desert riders run 4+3 and wider. It also moves the tire contact patch further from the bearing pack, and that extra leverage goes straight into wheel bearings, hub spindles, and ball joints on every hard landing. It feeds more kickback into the steering rack over rocks too, which is hard on power steering motors. Factory-style offsets like 6+1 and 5+2 protect those parts. Wide offsets buy stability and spend bearing life. Neither camp is wrong, they just ride different ground.

Beadlock Versus Standard UTV Wheels
A beadlock wheel bolts a machined ring over the outer tire bead and clamps it mechanically to the wheel. A standard wheel relies on air pressure to hold that bead against the rim lip, which is why the bead can unseat once you drop into the 12 to 15 PSI range and a corner loads up or a rock catches the sidewall.

Beadlock bolts lose tension because the rubber compressed under the ring settles after the first heat cycles. That is normal. Tighten by hand first so nothing cross-threads, then torque in a star pattern in two stages, half spec and then full.
Torque specs vary by brand more than riders expect. Metal FX publishes 16 to 18 ft-lbs on its M8 ring hardware, Method publishes 15 to 27 ft-lbs on 5/16 inch hardware, and System 3 publishes 15 ft-lbs. Use the number your wheel manufacturer publishes rather than a general figure.

Beadlocks are worth it if you actually air down. If you ride hardpack and gravel at 12 PSI and up, a good non-beadlock wheel does the same job with less maintenance and fewer parts to lose.
Forged Versus Cast UTV Wheels
Construction determines what a wheel weighs, what it holds, and how it behaves when it finally takes a hit it cannot absorb.

Strongest and lightest, bends rather than shatters under overload, and a damaged barrel section gets replaced without scrapping the center
That last point is the practical reason to buy forged. On a one-piece wheel, a bent barrel is a new wheel. On a 3-piece, it is a replacement rim section and a set of bolts.
Published load ratings tell you how much capability you are buying, and they do not track construction in a straight line. Metal FX rates the forged 3-piece Alpha 6R at 1,600 lbs per corner and the cast Slayer 6R at 1,400 lbs, but its cast Alpha 6R comes in at 1,650 lbs. System 3 publishes 1,500 lbs on the SB-8 and SB-9 and 1,200 lbs on the SB-4 through SB-7. Fuel UTV publishes 1,250 lbs on its Rincon UTV beadlock. For a loaded four-seat machine carrying passengers, gear, and accessories, anything under 1,000 lbs per corner is thin once you start landing G-outs.
Forged UTV wheels cost more and most riders do not need them. If you run a high-horsepower performance build, hit big terrain at speed, or keep bending cast wheels, the math starts to work.
Aluminum Versus Steel UTV Wheels
Nearly every wheel on this page is aluminum, and there is a reason. Steel wheels flex under load, rust as soon as the finish gets scratched, and add unsprung weight your clutch has to move. Aluminum alloys hold more load per pound, shed brake heat better, and resist corrosion after a season of mud and creek crossings. Steel still makes sense as a cheap spare or on a low-speed work machine that lives in a field.
What Bigger Wheels and Tires Do to the Rest of Your Machine
Wheel and tire weight is unsprung rotating mass, and adding it changes four systems at once. This is the part most wheel pages skip.
- Drive belt. More rotating mass takes more torque to spin up. On a CVT, that shows up as belt slip against the clutch sheaves, and slip makes heat that separates the belt cords. Belt life is usually the first thing riders notice. Our UTV drive belts collection covers replacements.
- Clutching. Bigger wheels and taller tires pull engine RPM down below the power curve on acceleration. Lighter flyweights or a stiffer primary spring bring engagement RPM back where it belongs. Stock clutching handles a mild size increase; past that you are buying belt life with a clutch kit.
- CV axles. More rotating mass and a taller tire increase the lever arm on the axle shafts when traction hooks up suddenly, and CV joints wear faster for it. Heavy-duty UTV axles are the usual answer on big-tire builds.
- Brakes. Kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, so a heavier wheel package asks the same calipers and rotors to shed more heat. Expect earlier fade and faster pad wear.
Budget for these when you size up. When someone comes to us wanting 35s on a machine that came with 29s, the clutch kit is part of the same conversation.
Lug Nuts, Hub Bores, and Torque
Three details that cause more wheel problems than fitment does.
Lug seats. Most UTV wheels use a conical 60 degree seat, and the lug nut taper has to match it. Flat washer nuts on a conical seat only touch at the edge, which lets hardware back off under vibration and eventually shears studs. Two exceptions catch people out. Kawasaki KRX wheels are not machined for a taper and take flat-seat nuts. And Honda moved the Pioneer and Talon from a radius seat to a tapered seat for 2026, so nuts off an older machine will not seat correctly on a new one. Reuse the OEM nuts or buy nuts made for the wheel.
Thread size varies too. Polaris, the Maverick X3, and Honda run M12x1.50. Kawasaki, Yamaha, and CFMOTO run M12x1.25. Non-X3 Can-Am machines run M10x1.25. The Maverick R uses M12x1.50 despite sharing its 6x139.7 pattern with half-ton trucks, so generic truck spacers and nuts in that pattern arrive with M14 threads that will not thread onto the hub.
Hub bore. A hub-centric wheel has a center bore machined to sit on the vehicle's hub pilot, like the 78.1 mm bore on Maverick R fitments or 66.1 mm on Pro R and Ranger XD 1500. The hub carries the vehicle weight and the studs just clamp. A lug-centric wheel has an oversized bore and relies on the lug nuts to center it, so if you feel a vibration at speed on a hub-centric machine, a hub-centric ring is the fix.
Torque. Use a calibrated torque wrench, tighten in a star pattern, and use the figure your machine's manufacturer publishes. Polaris calls for 120 ft-lbs on the Ranger XD 1500 and 120 ft-lbs on aluminum wheels for the 2025 RZR Pro R. Honda calls for 80 lb-ft in a crisscross pattern in the Pioneer 1000 owner's manual. Re-check every nut after your first ride on new wheels.

What bolt pattern does a Polaris RZR use?
Most Polaris RZR models, including the XP 1000 and Pro XP, use a 4x156 bolt pattern with a 132.0 mm hub bore. The RZR Pro R and the XPEDITION are the exceptions and run 5x114.3 with a 66.1 mm bore.
Will Kawasaki Teryx KRX wheels fit an older Teryx?
Not without help. The KRX 1000 and the Mule PRO run 4x156, while the older Teryx 750 and 800 and the non-PRO Mules run 4x137. The KRX also seats on a 110 mm hub pilot and uses flat-seat lug nuts rather than the conical nuts most machines take.
Will Can-Am Maverick X3 wheels fit a Maverick R?
No. The Maverick X3 uses a 4x137 pattern and the Maverick R uses a 6-lug 6x139.7 pattern with a 78.1 mm hub-centric bore. The Maverick R needs 6-lug wheels built for it, like the Metal FX 6R line.
Can I run 14 inch wheels on a RZR Pro R or Ranger XD 1500?
In practice, no. Both machines ship on 15 inch wheels, and every aftermarket wheel built in their 5x114.3 fitment starts at 15 inch. There is no 14 inch option to run.
How often do beadlock bolts need to be re-torqued?
Re-torque every ring bolt after your first ride on a fresh mount, then check them before any long ride. The rubber under the ring compresses and settles, which drops bolt tension.
Are beadlock UTV wheels street legal?
Most aftermarket beadlock wheels carry a manufacturer warning that they are built for off-road use only, and that warning is what you go by. Street-legal rules for UTVs vary by state and county, so check your local ordinance before running beadlocks on a public road.
Can I run 15x10 rear wheels with 15x7 fronts?
Yes. A staggered width setup will not harm the drivetrain as long as the front and rear tires have the same overall rolling diameter and pressures are set so the rolling circumferences match.
Do I need a hub-centric ring for my UTV wheels?
Only if your machine centers the wheel on a hub pilot and the wheel's bore is larger than that pilot. Polaris, Can-Am, and the Kawasaki KRX all run hub-centric fitments, and a ring fills the gap and stops the vibration that shows up at speed. Honda, Yamaha, CFMOTO, and the Mule PRO center on the lug nuts instead, so a ring does nothing for them.
